CCU Basketball Team: Ambassadors of Christ

CCU Exemplifies Christ in Boston!
-Boston, Massachusetts-May, 2001

In it's inaugural tournament, at the North American Chinese Nationals, two CCU teams displayed Christlike character while playing with athletism that surprised many.

Jason Lee's back to back 3's were key in CCU's win vs. Boston.

The men's team reached the final four in the men's open division that consisted of 24 teams. With 11 players on the roster, the men's team average height was somewhere around a dwarf-like 5'9". While each of their opponents featured at least 2 players over 6'2". How did the men's team advance so far? Defense. A simple full court press that kept their opponents off-balance throughout the whole game. 4 out of the 6 games, thier opponents were held to 13 points in the second half. Their opponents did not break the 50 point mark until the final four game where New York scored 55 points enroute to a heart-breaking 2 point victory to end CCU's bid to play Alpine Little Horse in the championship. Jeremy Lee lead all scorers with a tournament average of 17.5 points per game. Jeremy was the youngest and tallest player (5'10") on the team.

of competition. Corrine Yu lead the way with intense defense and an average of 8 points per game. They played well and hung tough in both losses but poor free throw shooting haunted them throughout the tournament. They shot 42% vs. 49% of their opponents. Though the gals were disappointed with the early exit, they enjoyed themselves immensely and were motivated to be better for next year's tournament.

This new CCU Basketball ministry, spear-headed by Jason Lee and Mark Huynh, has two main goals. Firstly, it is a means for christian athletes to gather for fellowship and growth, spiritually and physically. Second, this ministry is an outlet for these athletes to be a witness to non-believers and an encouragement to believers, both on and off the court.
